Welcome to my Blog!

I have a little girl. Her name is Faith. Faith is five years old and through her eyes she sees the world as a beautiful place that’s fun to explore. I have a son, his name is Delaney (he’s the third – my father is very proud) and through his eyes the place is an endless playground.

That’s pretty much the way I see it too. Life to me is an exciting adventure where you meet interesting people, make new friends, and have fun exploring the endless possibilities together. I have been blessed to have the most supportive wife and family, beautiful children, amazing clients and a team of people I work with that is unparalleled. Every day when I go to work I get to do the thing I love to do the most – connect with people and make new friends while exploring my vision as an artist.

This is my blog. Here you will see the adventures I have, meet the people I do and can see how my life plays out. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Carswell Photo Booth

Catherine Carswell has been a friend of ours for over a year and a half.  She’s just the sweetest thing and we had a ball photographing her wedding Saturday!  I wanted to share some of the photobooth images with all the guests who came and enjoyed their time in the booth at the Blacksmith Shop.  It was an awesome day and an exciting, beautiful reception!

Think Different

I woke up this morning and sighed. Kerry was sleeping next to me. Blinking the sleep away from my eyes I rolled over and stared up at the ceiling in the dark thinking about the meetings we had yesterday, the people we’ve met and the direction of the company. I thought about how blessed we have been, our friends, our beautiful clients and how much I absolutely love what we do.

Then, I thought about what’s next for us. You see, I am in love the question “What’s next?”.  I love innovation and no matter how good we are or how successful or how much we learn, I always want to learn, grow and experience more. The Japanese have a saying for it. It’s called, “Kaizen” – never ending improvement.

And it’s hard. It’s hard sometimes to let go of old ideas, old ways of doing things and explore new things. It’s scary to take risks and put yourself out there.

But, I think that may be where we can find the very best of us.

Where the Wild Things Are

This morning as I was getting ready and my little boy went and got my shoes by their shoe laces and handed them to me and said, “Shoes!”. He’s two years old and I always sit down on the stairs to put my shoes on every morning and he likes to sit next to me. Last night he looked at me on the couch and said “Luv You”. He said that in turn to Kerry and to my little girl Faith and grinned as we all told him we loved him too. He’s quite the little man.

There’s nothing I have ever experienced like the love of my own children. Christmas is so different when you have children. In fact, I think your whole life experience is different and so rich for being loved by your own child. I love looking down into my kids eyes and seeing a small part of me looking back and so much more.

I wanted to share this awesome movie trailer with you. It’s from one of my favorite Childhood books and I can’t wait to take my kids to see it.

Don’t you love make believe! Imagination is Magic.

Help Wanted!

I have a photographer friend of mine who I was speaking with this week who is looking for an assistant photographer to work with her on wedding shoots.

She shoots some awesome weddings and wanted to see if I could pass the word along to my friends. So I told her sure. :-)

If you or someone you know would like to be considered, email me and I’ll pass your name along to her. If you have a website or can email any photos, that would be great as well. The biggest thing she said she was looking for was a great attitude and a love for photography. :-)

Allison and Eric

Allison has dreamt of her wedding day since she was a small girl. The remarkable part is that when she was a little girl she played dress up in a little white wedding dress and choose hot pink shoes to complete her look. Around a decade later, on Valentine’s Day, she made her childhood dreams of her wedding day come true.

Governor Sonny Perdue, the governor of the very fine state of Georgia, spoke at their wedding and before the ceremony took a moment to pose with Allison and they both showed off their shoes! She had her beautiful pink shoes and he had awesome black boots with the seal of Georgia embossed into the leather. Governor Perdue spoke kind words of encouragement and spoke of the wonders of marriage.

Their large church was totally packed and overflowed to balcony with friends and family who wished them well on their wedding day. Allison was beautiful, and Eric couldn’t stop smiling during the ceremony as they held hands.

After the ceremony she and Eric rode away in a vintage car that her mother and father had once dated in. An awesome reception was waiting for them at the country club where they danced the night away.

Allison and Eric, thank you so much for letting us be there to photograph your day and share in your wonderful wedding experience. All our wishes for you to have the best life together!

Kenny and Katie

Kenny and Katie are so warm. When Kenny and Katie smile at you, they mean it and they make you feel it. We were blessed to spend a beautiful January day photographing the moments of their amazing wedding.

The day started at the hotel where Katie was getting ready and then we drove to the 1842 Inn to do some fashion bridal photography. Katie put her dress on and we were able to photograph her on the antebellum front porch before we went to the church.

On the way to the church we stopped by the Blacksmith Shop and Katie was able to get a little sneak peek of what her reception was going to look like. We had met with several vendors a few nights before to hear about all the plans for her wedding and the place was abuzz with people placing plants, flowers, tables and candles to create the perfect winter wonderland atmosphere.

We drove to Mulberry Street Methodist Church where we did a little more photography before the wedding and then all the girls lined up. One by one they walked down the aisle in their gowns and then when the doors opened, Katie took Kenny’s breath away. Kenny was beaming as he watched his bride walk down the aisle.

After the wedding we all boarded the Macon Trolley and were whisked away to the reception. When we got there the building was aglow from the lighting that Kevin Nichols had set up creating a winter blue wash over the bricks. Stepping inside, even the beautiful wedding cake by Karen Holleman Cakes was lit from above and the smell of food and drinks filled the air.

They had an incredible banquet provided for their guests by Teddi Wohlford. They had signature drinks of snow crème martini and an amaretto and crème slush drink that the guests gushed over. They even had a place outside where you could have a smore created from you from homemade marshmallows.

Their grand setting was punctuated by beautiful flowers created by Carmen Johnston and Allison Lucas. There were flowers everywhere and one arrangement over the food buffet barely stopped short of the ceiling. Katie’s bouquet was as perfect for her as her dress was. Everywhere you looked there was something beautiful to enjoy.

The good time band Celebration kept the party going and friends and family were constantly on the dance floor. The evening flew by and before we knew it Kattie and Kenny ran though the sparklers and drove away leaving their party behind them and beginning their life together.

Kattie and Kenny, thank you so much for allowing us to spend your wedding day with you. It was a perfect beginning to your perfect life together.

Vendors

We were blessed to partner with some awesome wedding vendors on this wedding. They made it all look so amazing:

February 24, 2009 - 11:49 am sue warren - Delaney and all, Words simply cannot describe what beautiful pictures you all took. To say we are pleased is a real understatement!! You captured every single moment perfectly---from Katie getting ready, to Gincie's apprehension about singing, to the look on Kenny's face when he saw his bride,to the fun times at the Blacksmith Shop. And while I'm extremely biased, I really think some of those pictures are magazine quality. I could see it being featured in the new magazine Southern Weddings----do you have any pull there? Again, many, many thanks. While you didn't shave 50lbs off me, and I definately see eyelid surgery in my future, you all did a remarkable job. :) Sue Warren

2009 Bridal Show

dhbridalshow091

The Elite Events bridal show is the biggest bridal show in Middle Georgia. There were hundreds of brides there and we made a lot of new friends. We’ve already met with four brides this week and we’re scheduling more consultations so we can get together soon with the new friends we made at the bridal show.

It was a total blast. This year we erected a updated version of our booth. We wanted to showcase our work in a comfortable environment for our brides to sit and enjoy the albums. We were totally SWAMPED during the show and it was so exciting to see everyone so connected to us and our work. We even ran into Laura Starling, a good friend of ours, who was there participating at the show.

We loved the chance to make new friends. If we met you there, give us a call and we’ll schedule a time to get together and talk about your wedding.

March 5, 2009 - 5:37 pm Jae' - Hey. I like it! It's so Tahiti/Sohoish

May 28, 2009 - 9:32 pm Laura Starling - Delaney, When I google my name, I always find two or three listings from something you posted. You are sweet to mention me! Hope we'll catch up soon. Miss seeing you! Laura

Kelly and David’s Engagement

Kelly and David are very much in love. You can tell the by the way they look at each other, how they sit close together, and, of course, the way they pick on each other.

They have so much chemistry together.

We decided to go downtown and do their engagement photos there. David and Kelly liked the urban feel and the history of downtown. We always enjoy shooting engagements in the places that are special to our clients.

David, a member of the group REHAB and also an amazing solo musician himself, told me that he got his start dancing in a group at the Macon Coliseum downtown. We took a shot of them looking at the Coliseum. That’s where their reception is going to be. Now he plays venues with thousands of people.

We walked around and when we came to Bibb Music, walked inside. He picked out a guitar, strummed it a couple of times and started playing it. Kelly watched, as his fingers were a blur on the fret board strumming out a song. She told me that sometimes she falls asleep listening to him play.

Guys, thanks you so much for letting us spend some time with you and watch as you guys explored downtown. I’m so looking forward to the wedding!
